The Mystery Challenger is a Ryder Cup-style showdown at a mystery golf course, where North and South San Diego’s top teams battle for a $5,000 prize. Teams earn their way in through SD Tour games, Challenger Golf matches, and community referrals. Only the best 16 players make it to the tee.

The 2025 Mystery Challenger is a team-based, Ryder Cup-style tournament at the iconic Coronado Golf Course. The top four teams—two from North San Diego and two from South San Diego—qualify based on season-long points earned through SD Tour games, Challenger Golf matches, and referrals.

On tournament weekend, these 16 verified players compete in a three-day showdown for bragging rights and a $5,000 prize.

🏌️ Tournament Format

18 holes total — 9 holes of Best Ball and 9 holes of Chapman Scotch.

• Holes 1–9: Best Ball — all players play their own ball, and the lowest score counts per hole.
• Holes 10–18: Chapman Scotch — players pair up, both tee off, choose the best drive, and alternate shots until holed.

🎯 Handicap Breakdown

• Best Ball: 80% of each player’s course handicap
• Chapman Scotch:
– 60% of lower-handicap player
– 40% of higher-handicap player (per pair)

Handicaps verified via GHIN prior to play.

🏆 Scoring & Tiebreakers

• Team score = Best Ball score (holes 1–9) + Chapman Scotch score (holes 10–18), adjusted for handicaps
• Net and Gross leaderboards — prizes for both

Tiebreakers:
• First: Sudden-death playoff starting on Hole 18 (if possible)
• If not: Lowest Chapman Scotch score
• Then: Lowest Best Ball score
• All other ties settled by scorecard regression

Rules & Conduct

USGA Rules of Golf apply unless modified by local/tournament rules.
Scorecards must be signed and submitted immediately after play.
Repeated slow play may result in a two-stroke penalty.
Teams are expected to maintain a 4.5-hour pace.
Loud speakers are encouraged. So is good energy.
Unsportsmanlike conduct = DQ. No refunds.
